About the Columbus Monkeys

The Columbus Monkeys will aim to be a democratic organization offering an open-mind policy for those involved. The Monkeys will target a 15-man roster. The Monkeys are expecting to have team session dues around $2700, which equates to a per player fee of about $179. In addition to the league dues, new players will need to purchase a jersey for game play, approximately $60.

Players are encouraged to recruit. Although the team may fill up quickly, we are more than happy to accommodate friend requests should a spot be available.

Each player will need to be a registered member of USA Hockey. This membership is good for one year, and the CAHL (Chiller leagues) requires registration. To register, please visit this link at USAHockey.com and print out the proof of registration page shown at the end. You should email the provided link to the Columbus Monkeys as well.

The official Monkey colors are yellow and black. Jerseys will be a majority black with yellow and white highlights throughout. To see the official game jersey of the Columbus Monkeys, click here.

The Monkeys will play Thursday nights. Games start between 7 and 10:30 p.m., and will last approximately one hour. Teams are scheduled for 12 games with the potential of an additional games in the playoffs. Championship T-Shirts are provided to the winner of the league.

The Columbus Monkeys will structure lines in order to attempt to provide an even amount of ice time for players. However, should players miss deadlines or fail to communicate as adults, the Monkeys reserve the right to deny involvement in games. The Monkeys are a D-level ice hockey club. This means another purpose is to learn and progress. The team will be comprised of beginners and newer players, as well as a couple of upper tier players in order to facilitate said development.

Finally, the Columbus Monkeys want to provide an excellent experience for all involved. Professionalism will be evident in all aspects of the organization; jerseys will be quality, players will have a solid understanding of what is expected of them as well as news and information about the team, and the Monkeys will remain open to the possibilities of out-of-town tournaments and events should the team be interested. The entire premise of the Monkeys is to provide a stress-free environment to play the sport many of us are passionate about. Players will be required to keep the lines of communication open with management and fulfill necessary actions in a timely manner (i.e. pay dues, register for USA Hockey, RSVP for game or practice, etc.).

The team mascot was selected to emphasize the reason we stay involved in team sports long after our chance to become a professional has diminished. A monkey conveys an aura of friendliness and fun, and each member should demonstrate the attitude we take towards this recreational outlet every time on the ice.
